Northumberland Cheese Company began with a simple belief: that this landscape - its pastures, its farming traditions, its people - makes cheese worth celebrating.
For over three decades we've crafted cheese from our dairy at Blagdon, in the heart of Northumberland. What started as a small operation has grown into one of the Northeast's best-known artisan cheesemakers, but the way we work hasn't changed. We still make in small batches and still let the seasons shape what we produce.
Northumberland Cheese Company traces its roots to 1984, when sheep farmer Marc Robertson began making cheese by hand in his farmhouse kitchen at Soppit Farm in Elsdon, seeking to become less reliant on EU subsidies.
After learning his craft in Holland and refining his recipes, he launched the Redesdale Sheep Dairy in 1985, later expanding into cows' milk cheeses as the business grew. In 1996 the company moved to Blagdon and rebranded as the Northumberland Cheese Company, where today it produces around a tonne of cheese a week.
Good cheese can't be rushed. We make in small batches, by hand, using traditional methods refined over years, paired with the modern standards you'd expect on quality, hygiene and care.
Because we work with the seasons, our range shifts through the year, and every cheese is made to be enjoyed at its best. From fresh and mild to rich and mature, there's a Northumberland cheese for every board, every recipe and every occasion.
Cheese is where it starts - but there's a lot more to Northumberland Cheese Company.
From award-winning cheeses to the chutneys, crackers and drinks that go with them - everything you need for the perfect board.
