The Great Exhibition of the North is coming to Newcastle! And to celebrate, we want to give you a tour of the beautiful Northumbrian county with our Great North Gift Box...
Kielder
Kielder water is a reservoir and forrest park in West Northumberland, and it is an absolutely stunning place to visit. It has fantastic walking and cycling routes, it has some of the best dark skies in the world, and it is in great proximity to Hadrian's Wall... which brings us on the the next cheese...
Hadrian
Hadrian was named after the wonderful landmark, Hadrian's Wall. This 73 mile-long wall was built by the Roman army as a frontier control. It is an impressive sight to behold! We've always been told that caraway bushes grew aound Hadrian's wall, and that's why the cheese was named as such (the cheese contains caraway seeds). We're sticking to that story...
Cheviot
The Cheviot hills are between Northumberland and the Scottish borders, and they are an impressive range of hills in our county, where you can see views for miles! They are in Northumberland National Park, which is a wonderful area to explore.
Elsdon
Elsdon is a little village off the A696 in Northumberland. It is an very endearing little village, with a fantastic pub! Northumberland Cheese Company was founded by Marc Robertson, who had a farm at Soppit Farm, which is in Elsdon... so we had to include it!
All of the cheeses are delicious of course! But it's nice to be able to form a map of Northumberland with the cheeses isn't it? So if you're attending any events for the Great Exhibition of the North, it's worthwhile coming out of the city for a day, and seeing the beautiful Northumbrian countryside too.
