British Food Fortnight was founded in 2002 in response to the foot and mouth crisis that hit British farming. Luckily, that crisis isn't part of our landscape now, so it's a campaign which allows us to shout about the bounty of British food producers that we have in the UK, and celebrate them!
Local food gets a lot of positive publicity, and we are certainly very proud of our local following. However, we do also massively appreciate other products on British soil (we source our goats' milk from Cumbria, and our sheep's milk from Lancashire for example).
To celebrate British Food Fortnight, we some new specials in our cafe:
Wild Mushroom Soup with crusty bread or garlic bread:Ј4.00
Limited Edition Ploughman's:with home-cooked ham from Heighley gate, cheese from our dairy, pease pudding, boiled eggs, and pickled onions:Ј7.95
Northumberland Sausage Company sausage bap:Ј4.80
Apple Pie with ice-cream, custard or cream:Ј3.50
Date and Walnut scones:Ј1.75
This menu is available from 17th September- 2nd of October. We are open 10am-4pm every day, so come and try.
